For one weekend every summer since 2008 (with a break during the London Olympics year) Hackney Wick has been transformed into a hotbed of arts, culture and performance as part of a festival dubbed Hackney WickED.
This year activities centred around Queens Yard (where you’ll find the Crate Brewery and the Yard Theatre) and Forman’s Yard, next to the famous salmon smokery.
One of Hackney WickED’s trademarks is the unusual talents that are exposed at this annual event, and 2014 proved to be no different – amongst them were a succession of incredibly skilled human beatboxers who wowed the crowds in front of the derelict but rather colourful Lord Raglan pub, and the resident artist outside the theatre who, perhaps in the spirit of casting out demons, offered to ‘sketch your ex’.
Adding to the spectacle this year were the 1950s dresses and suits worn by participants at Secret Cinema’s Back To The Future spectacle, taking place over in Stratford later in the evening.
